|EMD (Electromotive Div of GM) SD Diesel Locomotives|
The EMD SD-90Mac is one of the newest and most powerful diesel locomotives, rivaling the power of some of the largest steam locomotives of the past. The model above is the new full-scale model of the SD-90 from MTH (May 1999) in the EMD demonstrator colors. Note that the trucks have three axles each (six wheels per truck) -- it is this that distinguishes the SD-series diesels from the GP-series diesels, which have but two axles (four wheels per truck). New Jersey Transit, for example, uses the GP-class locomotives rather than the SD-class. The prototype pictured below is in Union Pacific livery,
The EMD SD-60m is a relatively modern diesel locomotive, shown here in Union Pacific livery.
This Denver & Rio Grande SD-50 is an older SD model locomotive.
