|2-10-2 Santa Fe Steam Locomotives|
The 2-10-2 Santa Fe-class steamers were built on the theory that if 8 drivers were good, well, 10 should be better! In reality, this was seldom the case, and the Santa Fe, though seeing some specialized service, was never a wildly popular model.
The Santa Fe locomotive shown above was developed by the Pennsy Lines West shops in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. It was intended as a heavy freight hauler, to compete with the decapod type. In the end, the decapods won out.
